So I often get asked about how to plan a wedding in London, where to go for photos & which register offices are the best – so I thought I’d write it all down here in my complete guide to London Wedding Photography.
London – one of the greatest cities in the world
Where weddings are concerned it’s got every option you could possibly think of. No matter what kind of wedding you are planning you will find something that suits you
I’ve been to lots of different kinds of weddings in this city
From The Ritz, to Lincolns Inn, to driving through London on an open top bus, to being heckled in the local park while taking photos.
So where are the best places for
wedding photos in London?
That’s a great question & the honest answer is…
wherever is special to you – I’ve been to childhood homes in Bethnal Green, made a diversion to Walthamstow Dog Track, stopped outside football stadiums, re-created the famous Beatles Abbey Road crossing photo, almost got ran over outside The Savoy & many more.
Get photos that will have the most meaning for you
I’ve been in pie & mash shops, the local park, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster, the South Bank, inside tube stations, at bus stop – I’ve even been in McDonalds.
I reckon I’ve seen most things & I have dozens of ideas I’d love to share with you, so here are a few things to do on your wedding day:
Hire a Red Routemaster London Bus
Get married in your garden
Walk across the Thames
Go for Pie & Mash
Stop by a tube station
Get a McDonalds
Visit your local park
Get Photo Bombed
Hold the traffic up at a zebra crossing
What sort of Wedding Venue would fit for you?
The answer is it depends what sort of wedding you are looking for, here are a few venues in London itself or on the edge which may suit you:
Located close to Caledonian Road underground station in North London this is a versatile venue with separate ceremony & bar areas
The Depot
Town Hall Hotel, Bethnal Green
This venue is as its name suggests a former town hall building in East London – now a high end hotel, you can even get married in a former council chamber
Probably needs no introduction – the only venue where the doorman knew my name upon arrival
The Ritz
Lincolns Inn, Holborn
One of many fine legal buildings in this part of London – some of which let you get married there. Great photo ops on site at any of these.
What about venues on the outskirts of London?
If the hectic nature of a Central London wedding isn’t for you there are hundreds of lovely venues located in every borough of the city, here are a few that stick in my mind:
Brentham Club, Ealing
Unique Grade II listed venue in West London with a function hall, rooftop area & a smaller room if you’re not having a big wedding
The Great Barn, Ruislip
Love going here, big beautiful main barn for a ceremony and/or reception, big lawn at the back for a drinks reception & lots of nearby locations for photos
Headstone Manor & Museum, Harrow
Another barn & a venue I visited for the first time in 2024 – spacious reception area & an elegant location for your wedding
